14 years down…

I can’t believe that I am ending my fourteenth year in the world of education this year. It’s just crazy to me that I have been in the classroom that long already. I remember hearing about people at Borgia who were in their 15th year, and I thought they were so old…that it would take me forever to get there. And here I am…

Granted, my journey of teaching hasn’t looked like that of my Borgia co-workers. I’ve been inside a dozen middle schools, high schools, and universities in four different states. I am really excited about getting to teach Technology for Educators this summer through Regis, but I am really going to miss teaching in person. My in-person school this year will be at the Jackson Bed, Breakfast, and Brewery as I try to keep making that cute little girl become a smart little girl, too.

As this school year comes to a close, I have learned a lot, but I have stayed true to my values and beliefs, which is most important to me. Thank you to my dad for instilling in me such a strong work ethic. It’s obviously gotten me in trouble having high standards, but I know that’s what my students need.

I’ll admit. I’m definitely a bit scared about staying home. I was so depressed last spring, just because I missed interacting with people, in particular students and faculty. That mental stimulation is what I need. Granted, this time, I am taking classes at Regis (in addition to teaching classes there), and I’m just hoping that round two of fertility treatments will work sooner or later so I’ll be pregnant and have that to keep me busy and occupied. I’m hoping we end up in DC next so I can go back to work full-time.

I know that there is lots of cool stuff I can do with my Em in San Antonio and she’s getting to an age where she can do more and more. I just hope I have the patience to be a good mom and teacher to her and that I am able to find time for myself, too.

I can’t wait until I don’t have to look for a job again. I so want to be settled and be at a school for 20 years. At the most, I have eight years until we are back in St. Louis, and I’m still hoping that we can get last assignment in the area and that I can be back permanently in five. I so want to be in one place and help make some school in St. Louis even more amazing.

In the meantime, I need to make this year amazing. I need to write my book(s). I need to create an awesome Techy Teacher website and learn as much as I can in my classes so that I can get that dream job back in STL one day.
