Snowmageddon, bread class, a brutal cold, and Week 1 of round 2

I’m walking down Perimeter Road last Wednesday during the 2010 DC blizzard.

I haven’t been to work since February 5, and that was a half day. Since then, we’ve had snow day after snow day. Today, we probably could get to work with a bit of a delay, but the county called off school–probably because the traffic lanes are too narrow for the buses to safely make it around and because there are few sidewalks for children who walk to school. When I dropped Mark off at the airport yesterday, I noticed that Alexandria was practicing their routes, and they ended up canceling school. The buses didn’t have enough room in some lanes. I can see how it would be dangerous.

I lucked out last week…it just so happened that Mark’s week at home was last week when the snow came. I didn’t have to shovel, I got a week off of dog duty, we had tons of cuddle time on the couch, we watched tons on our DVR and many movies, we made great dinners, and I was able to go to his doctor appointments with him.

We had two feet of snow easily between the Feb. 5-6 storm and the Feb. 10 storm. I’ve never seen so much snow. The big snow storm that I remember from when I was little only had 18 inches. St. Louis was paralyzed! Now we’ve had multiple storms this winter that have gone way above that.

This is probably one of the most disjointed blogs I’ve ever wrote. My head is fuzzy, and I want to sleep, but I can’t breathe. Mark gave me his cold and it started coming in full force on Saturday. I’m thankful for the day off again…while I know I need to get back to teaching, I can hardly breathe;  I’ve been living off the yummy bread that Mark and I made in class on Saturday. (It was awesome. I was actually complimented for my baking skills! Apparently, we’re naturals with finding the right consistency and giving our bread the right amount of kneading. We learned to make multiple yummy sweet breads.)

Yesterday was really, really hard. Each goodbye gets more difficult because we both know that it just builds to that goodbye in April. I came home and had a really hard cry. Thank goodness for my pups. They took good care of me. I get to go to Albuquerque next week; hopefully, I get a visit at UNM. Now it sounds like we’ll be going there, and if that is the case, I think I’m going to attempt my doctorate.

So here’s my stats for the day:
2 sleeping puppies
2 stuffed nostrils
11 days without school
8 days till I see Mark in Albuquerque
? days till we get our fence
2.5 months till Mark leaves for Iraq
4 more months till I get to move home

Also, I still need something to do for Lent. If you have any ideas, let me know….
