My Chocolate-covered Strawberry Recipe

So my recipe isn’t rocket science. I am sure that there are others that are way more complicated, but I have made these at least once a month for a year and they are cheaper and better tasting than any I have found in a store.

Ingredients and materials:
a small glass bowl
a small spatula
parchment paper
2 cutting boards
a paring knife
strawberries
1 piece of Doves dark chocolate per strawberry

THE RECIPE:
So anyone who knows me knows that I was far from a Betty Crocker in my early 20s. Getting married has made me domestic. I got really used to eating Mark’s awesome food, and when he left for Iraq, I had no choice but to try to cook on my own. Since I’ve lived in San Antonio, he’s taken over most of the cooking duties, and because of some classes I have taken, I’ve inherited baking (especially pizza), cake decorating, and basically all desserts.

I know berries are awesome food, but I never seem to make it through a whole package unless some of them end up as chocolate-covered strawberries.

First, I get my supplies ready. Cover a cutting board with a sheet of parchment paper and then use one to cut the tops off your strawberries. Once I know how many strawberries I am going to make, I unwrap a piece of Dove Dark Chocolate for each strawberry. I often throw in a few extra for good measure.

I microwave my chocolates in a small glass bowl like the one seen here.
I do NOT recommend using the kind of bowls that you would use for
something like creme bruelle or that can be used in the oven as well. I
have found that they heat too quickly.

I microwave my chocolate for 15 seconds, open the microwave, stir them,
and continue the process until the chocolates are all melted. Depending on the intensity of the heat in your microwave, you may want to lessen the heating power, but my microwave is five at 10, as long as I stir every 15 seconds.

Once my chocolate is ready, I dip the strawberries and place them on the parchment paper. If you have small tongs, you can use them if you don’t want to get your hands messy. They help make a cleaner looking strawberry. You can get nice strawberries if you dip them by hand, though.

After all of the strawberries have been dipped, I put the tray in the fridge and they are usually ready to serve in a few hours. I’ve found that the strawberries last for a few days with no problems (as long as they are of a decent quality to begin with).

These are easily one of my favorite treats, and they are so much better and cheaper than those bought in the store. For me, the key is Dove Dark Chocolate. It melts really well and hardens up nicely. I am sure that the Dove Milk Chocolates melt just as well.

So, enjoy. They only take 10 minutes (if that) to make. They’re super tasty and my favorite: they are so much cheaper than buying chocolate-covered strawberries out!
