Today I took my students to the Newseum. I made this 90-question scavenger hunt, and they only finished about half of it. They barely got through the Early News section of the museum. If you haven’t been to the museum, you should go. It is one of the best attractions in DC. My girls were already planning on coming back to visit since we didn’t get through everything. The 9/11 Memorial, Journalists’ Memorial, and Pulitzer Prize photographs are especially moving.
It was a great staff bonding day even though one student didn’t come. I reminded them how lucky they are to have this so close. It’s amazing to be able to take my students somewhere, and instead of just lecturing on the history of journalism, I can show it to them. The collection they have there is absolutely amazing to me.
Additionally, I met an AF wife that I genuinely wish I could be friends with. She taught our class on Civil Rights and the Press today. Her husband was stationed in Alaska, but she didn’t go. She stayed her for graduate school. Now he’s here working at the Pentagon. We had a good chat about how the AF doesn’t really do anything to support spouses like us who work and how there is a lack of community here. It was good…maybe we’ll cross paths again.
This weekend is going to be quite the project weekend. Mark and I have decided to do some touch-up painting in the house, some painting in our guest bathroom, and are putting up a chandelier in our dining room. I can’t wait!
