So, once again, my first parent drama of the year. I’m being a Clancy and killing the mom with kindness. So, what’s the problem? We’re in week five of the class and her son has yet to have a textbook. In fact, the first reading assignment in the next was given for last week, Week FOUR, and a handful didn’t have their book. And somehow it’s my fault? (Plus, I left a spare copy of the book at school for students to use. He didn’t use it. Again, not my fault. I can only help SO much.)
The school gave them a book list. The parents had to order the book. She didn’t. It was on the syllabus. The parents were told to read it and sign a paper for me that they read it. She did. I’m sorry but really? The best was hearing that I don’t understand adolescents. Nope. I’ve been working with them for 11 years. I have yet to figure them out. I don’t know how to work with them at all. That’s why it’s so hard for me to find a job in this tough economic situation. No one wants to hire me. Do you get my sarcasm?
Anyway…I hope to never be like this. I hate parents who don’t do their job and then blame the teacher. I hate parents who don’t accept that their kid is not doing the work for whatever reason and blame the teacher. I’m not being bullied into changing her son’s grade. Parents just drive me nuts. Own up to the fact you didn’t read the paper school sent you and you didn’t read the syllabus. Realize your son is almost 18 and needs to be able to read the syllabus if he wants college credit for the class. The end.
