Today’s big adventure was going to the base library. I had to run an errand at Seton…Liam needed a nap, but of course he didn’t fall asleep until five minutes before we got on base, so I drove around base to give him a bit more of a nap.
Emma’s friends from daycare were at story time and so was a friend from the 1st Heli playgroup. Each week, there’s a craft that complements the story. This week, we had two stories about frogs and then the kiddos got to decorate frogs.

Emma decorating her frog; she was so excited we had purple glitter glue. (Just in case she’s never told you, purple is her favorite color. Liam’s frog is in the background. He did great when he wasn’t trying to swallow the jewels.)
I can’t get enough of watching Emma and Liam play together. They’re such great friends, and while Emma can be a bit bossy, she’s an amazing big sister on the whole. I think what surprises me so much about watching them play is that Liam actually plays with Emma. Because Emma was an only child, it took her forever to play with other kids. She played in the same room as them. The she acknowledged they existed and played near them. Then, finally she started playing with him.
Liam’s different. He already plays with other kids. He’s so verbal. He says fishy when he sees the goldfish crackers. He can say, “I did it.” He’ll say, “I luv” when you say, “I love you” to him. I know everyone says the oldest is the “smart” one because those kids often get more 1:1 attention, but I really think that Liam is showing me that there are some real advantages to being #2 and that he’s not going to be left behind with Emma.
I am so thankful to have this time with them. They’re just fantastic little people, and everyday I am mesmerized by what they do, how they make me smile, and in awe of how they make this world better. They were both challenging to get, but I never go a day without thanking God for my two little people.
